Boxes for third-party Apple accessories are about look a lot more minimal.
Apple is partnering with accessory-makers such as battery case company Mophie to re-design boxes that fit Apple's design sensibility, according to 9to5Mac.
The newly-designed boxes have already started arriving on at Apple Stores shelves in the New York City area, a retail store employee confirmed to Tech Google. The boxes will reportedly get a larger rollout in the weeks ahead.
Tech Google got a firsthand look at the boxes, which take on the appearance of traditional Apple product packaging. They're largely white and have an image of the product inside. The first accessories to be featured are Mophie charging cases, Tech21 laptop cases and Logitech iPad keyboards. The boxes still carry the accessory-maker's branding on the front.
Apple has long been known to control as many aspects of its ecosystem's experience as possible. It's also been on a mission to class-up its retail stores, too. Apple recently outfitted employees in sleeker navy t-shirts (no more royal-blue,) and it's beginning to refine different aspects of stores.
Its new Upper East Side store in New York City is a good example of this. That location hides third-party boxes behind wooden drawers customers can pull out of the wall. The store also uses a darker wooden display table made so that it doesn't change color in the sun.
In addition, the company announced in April it would not allow customers to walk in to Apple Stores to buy the Apple Watch. The move was seen as a way to avoid having long lines that don't fall in line with the stores' image — although it also had to due with demand.
