7 advanced yoga poses you should not try at home (yet)

What do dogs, crows and trees have in common? They all have their own yoga poses, of course.

Experts have sung praises about the many health benefits of yoga over and over — increased blood flow, better posture, the list goes on and on.

For those who still need convincing, Monika Werner, yogini and teacher at New York's Joschi Yoga Institute has a few words for you.

"It's so much more than just a workout because it helps you connect with yourself a little bit more, get to know yourself a little bit more and it also calms your mind," she tells Mashable.

Werner has been teaching for more than ten years, but she says the beginners class is always her favorite, especially when it leads to another love for yoga. She also claims that the energy of the class makes her job easy (even if it sure doesn't look it).

Mashable invited Werner to our New York office for a rooftop session and she did not hold back. But don't let these striking poses intimidate you. One session, and you won't be able to to put away the yoga mat.

After trying a few of these striking poses, don't say we didn't warn you: you're definitely going to want to roll out the yoga mat.
