Report: Leaked iPhone 6S photo suggests longer battery life

With the debut of the next-generation iPhone likely three months away — a new one traditionally launches each September — the Apple rumor mill is heating up right on schedule.

Allegedly leaked photos of Apple's upcoming iPhone, presumed to be called the iPhone 6S, reveal an exterior casing that looks nearly identical to the iPhone 6 but comes with some internal updates. The details come from tech site 9to5Mac, which has a solid track record of correctly identifying leaks ahead of an Apple launch.

Despite initial rumors that the next-generation 4.7-inch iPhone could be even slimmer than the iPhone 6, the leaked photos show no changes to the casing. If the photos are legit, any differences in thickness, length or width are too small to notice. This doesn't come as a huge surprise, considering the iPhone is on an "S" cycle this year, which traditionally has fewer design changes and more internal upgrades.Of course, Apple could still make adjustments before an official launch and this doesn't rule out the exterior updates that could potentially come to the 5.5-inch iPhone 6S.Also missing from the alleged leaked iPhone 6S is a dual-lens camera system. Since the holes for the camera, microphone and LED flash are the same size and in the same spots as on the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6S won't likely be getting an upgraded camera system. Meanwhile, holes for the speakers and the Lightning connector show there won't be any changes coming to those features, which is good news for accessory makers who don't have to rush to redesign cases and other products.

However, there seem to be bigger updates under the hood of the iPhone 6S.
However, there seem to be bigger updates under the hood of the iPhone 6S. 9to5Mac is reporting that the iPhone 6S will double LTE speeds thanks to a new Qualcomm radio. In addition to faster performance, this means iPhone users may get better battery life, too.The report notes that the motherboard for the new iPhone is narrower than in previous models, which could hint at a larger, longer-lasting battery. While the leaked photos didn't shed any light on whether the iPhone 6S will get a Force Touch pressure-sensitive screen — which is a current feature of the Apple Watch and some MacBooks — Apple's manufacturing partners in Asia have reportedly already started production on bringing the feature to the latest iPhone.
